The Wedding of Taylor and Madison Reeve June 2, 2023
What does a Third Culture Kid from Indonesia who has become a RCMP officer serving in Prince Rupert, BC have in common with a Toronto born quintuplet, working as a newscaster in Kelowna, BC?
A Grammy.
Madison and Taylor began their romantic journey through a Christian dating app. On their 2nd call Taylor happens to mention his Grammy Lovine who lived with us in Indonesia. Madison quickly responded that she had a Grammy called Lovine, who had lived in Indonesia.
Lovine had come to Bandung Indonesia to serve with us in the International Church around the year 2000. She became a beloved Grammy to our children over the 5 years she babysat and cared for them. Taylor asked "Your Grammy's last name wouldn't be Erhardt would it?" "Yes, that is my Grammy, Grammy Lovine" Madison declared. What ensued was an amazing argument over whose "Grammy" Lovine really was!
Fast forward to a couple months of dating when Grammy Lovine began her new life in heaven. Taylor and Madison both travelled to her funeral to say goodbye to their beloved Grammy.
After countless times of driving 17 hours one way for dates, Taylor asked Madison to marry him in Paris, France under the Eiffel Tower.
But the God Story started long before then.
Debbie started praying for Taylor's wife (Madison) while Taylor was still in the womb
Madison's Dad, Jared, was the music director at our home church, Bayview Glen. Debbie sang solo's while he was there and Grandma Halsted sang in his Choir for years.
Madison grew up minutes from Debbie's family home in Thornhill, Ontario.
We visited Grammy Lovine in her basement apartment in Canada as a family when Taylor was about 9. Madison and her family were living on the top floor, but they never met.
Whitney was Madison's summer camp leader when she was a child.
Long time friend Garry James (who officiated their wedding and worked with Jared at Bayview Glen) is married to Pam who was Madison's Kindergarten teacher.
Both Madison, Taylor and both families share a deep relationship with God.
After the wedding, Madison's parents pulled out a watercolour painting that Lovine had given them to hang on the wall. They happen to notice that it was signed by D. Reeve, and yes it was a painting Lovine had purchased many years before in Indonesia painted by Madison's new mother-in-law.
So what do you think? Coincidence? Or a wonderful ordained union that God had in the working from conception?
One of Taylor's favorite verses is: “'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future. '” — Jeremiah 29:11
What a future. What a hope. It was worth the wait.
